James Warwick Jones, one of the most well known artists and teachers in Southeastern Virginia, has joined the staff of Hampton Arts as the Gallery Manager of The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center. He began his new duties at the Arts Center in late April 2005. In making the announcement of his appointment, Hampton Arts Director Michael Curry said: “We are delighted to have Jim join us as Manager of The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and wisdom to his new post and all the staff joins me in welcoming Jim on board.” For almost a quarter of a century James Warwick Jones was on staff at the Peninsula Fine Arts Center where he served in a number of different positions including Executive Director. But it was as Deputy Director that he really made his mark not only on the programs and operations of that facility but also on the entire visual arts community. Prior to joining the staff at PFAC, Jim served as an art instructor at Thorpe Junior High School in Hampton from 1971-76.In addition to his duties in the galleries, Jim has served as a juror for more than 40 juried exhibitions in Virginia. As an artist he has been featured in more than 100 one person, group and juried exhibitions and has won more than 125 prizes for his arresting and realistic paintings. His works are to be found in numerous public and private collections, including The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Portsmouth Museums, CSX Corporation, Philip Morris companies and, of course, here at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center where he has won purchase awards several times during the annual Hampton Bay Days Juried Art Exhibition. As Manager of The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center, Jim oversees the daily operations of the center and is responsible for the exhibitions, educational programs and other projects including the Hampton Arts League.
